Hepburn Shire has developed the Draft Hepburn Shire Playspace Strategy 2020 – 2030, Play is for Everyone, to improve the future provision of playspaces (inclusive of playgrounds, skate, scoot and BMX facilities, outdoor adult fitness spaces, water play and dog parks) for everyone throughout the Shire and would like the community to review it.
Council’s proposed vision for the future provision of playspaces throughout the Shire, over the next 10 years is – ‘Hepburn Shire will have a network of engaging, inclusive and sustainable playspaces that are reflective of our people and our places.’
After extensive community consultation, the feedback received indicated nature was the most valued aspect for play, whether it was being located in local bushland or being around water.
Having a space to socialise, a location close to home and being able to attend local events and activities were also ranked as highly important for the community.
Other valued aspects identified for play include access to sporting facilities, spaces catering for a range of interests and areas for dog walking.
The draft strategy, which is now publicly available for community feedback, considers future activation opportunities, asset management as well as the design and delivery of a range of new and upgraded playspaces over the next 10 years.
The research found existing Hepburn playspaces have potential for improvement to provide a range of recreational activities for all of the community.
This is an important Strategy to ensure there is a playspace to cater for everyone in Hepburn.
The draft Hepburn Playspace Strategy 2020-2030 is available for the community to review at https://oursay.org/hepburnshireplay.
The consultation will close on Sunday 16 August 2020
