Hepburn Shire Council CEO Evan King said being a Councillor is a rewarding challenge and encouraged anyone thinking about nominating to read and understand the commitment they’re making by running for council.
“I encourage people of all backgrounds, experiences, culture, age and gender to make sure they know what it takes to be a Councillor and then put their hand up and nominate.” Mr King said
There some eligibility requirements that need to be met to run for council, you need to be an Australian citizen, at least 18 years of age on Election Day and enrolled to vote in the municipality you plan to stand in.
The new Government Act 2020 has introduced mandatory candidate training , which will be available on line, which must be completed prior to running for council.
Information sessions start this Thursday with the Victorian Local Governance Association Running a Zoom session At 1:00 PM. A further session will be run on Wednesday 12 August at 6:00 PM.
