Once Upon a Lockdown – a podcast of 8 episodes tracking the experience of our City under lockdown has been launched as part of the Be Kind– Be Creative initiative.
In what is believed to be an Australian first, the content is driven in part by stories from the Ballarat community and captures the journey of people’s emotions and state of mind, as the world around them changes.
Each episode in the series introduces a different theme that engages the audience about Ballarat lives in isolation. The series is hosted and narrated by writer Hap Hayward.
Exploring the real experiences, the concerns, anxieties and hopes, the podcast is described as 10-minute bursts of a mix of diary, interview and documentary.
“This podcast series is local people and community members explaining in their own words and giving their own perspectives, and I think a lot of people will relate to what they are feeling and the emotions they express,” Cr Daniel Moloney said.
“Everything from daily walks with the family, through to how businesses have changed their direction, the podcast is a collection of human experience and hope in a regional city.”
The community is also able to engage via comments on social media or email. Each week’s theme is introduced at the end of each episode and puts a call out to the public for their contributions. Community members are encouraged to visit the website, submit their thoughts and opinions and even email in sound files in response.
The first episode focuses on Adaptability – how as a community we have changed course and altered our direction, in order to cope with change.
