The Installation of the Outdoor Fitness Equipment at four key locations around Lake Wendouree began on 23 March and is expected to be completed by the end of May 2020.
City of Ballarat Mayor, Cr Ben Taylor said it is one of many important Council projects supporting an active living lifestyle, that Council is able to complete during the pandemic, thanks to a partnership and funding from the State Government.
Different exercise equipment will be located at each station so they can be used as an individual exercise stop or as part of a full workout routine. Each exercise area is surrounded by a high performing safety surface in Play Matta. The equipment is focused on core body strength and is intended for users with a range of abilities.
The fitness equipment will remain fenced off to the public for an extended period because of COVID-19 restrictions and won’t be open until the lifting of restrictions and advice from the Health Department.
“The inclusion of fitness equipment, similar to work-out stations found at beachside locations including Sydney and the Gold Coast, is part of Council’s Lake Wendouree Master Plan and is designed to further activate the Lake precinct,” Cr Taylor said.
“Council has noted the number of people utilising the lake for exercise during the COVID-19 lockdown and is confident the equipment will be welcomed and well utilised by individuals and sporting clubs once it is deemed safe to do so.”
