The Hepburn Shire Council has partnered with national not for profit housing provider, Community Housing Limited (CHL), to deliver four purpose-built affordable housing dwellings in Clunes. Council provided $589,000 funding for this project. The units were officially opened today.
Mayor, Cr Licia Kokocinski said that the lack of affordable housing is an issue facing most communities.
“Access to safe, secure and affordable housing is a right that should be afforded to our whole community. I’m proud of the partnership we have developed with CHL and the community to deliver these homes, which will provide real opportunities for low income earners,” said Cr Licia Kokocinski.
Designed and built by CHL, the new homes will be rented out to eligible people with local community links, at subsidised rent.
CHL’s State Manager for Victoria, Grant McNeill said, “The new units are well designed, high quality, affordable and accessible homes which will add to the much-needed supply of long term affordable rental housing in the area.
“CHL will continue to provide tenancy and property management services to the new tenants, who will be supported by our staff to access local community services.
“We thank the Hepburn Shire for this partnership and look forward to continuing it in the future to develop more affordable housing in the region,” said Mr McNeill.
