Ballarat residents specialist appointments closer to home

Families in Ballarat will be able to get the specialist care they need closer to home following a funding boost from the Andrews Government.

Local MPs Juliana Addison and Michaela Settle announced the Labor Government had delivered on its commitment to fund 500,000 specialist appointments in regional Victoria, thanks to a $136.2 million investment in the Victorian Budget 2019-20.

Some 125,000 specialist appointments are funded across regional Victoria this financial year alone.

In Ballarat, patients needing specialist gastroenterology, hematology and cardiology treatment will benefit from 13,000 more local appointments in 2019-20 at Ballarat Health Services.

Ms Addison said the $2.4 million funding boost to Ballarat Health Services is part of the Labor Government’s plan to make sure that regional Victorians get the same world-class healthcare as Melbourne patients.

“Members of our community deserve world class healthcare on their doorstep. That is why we are investing in thousands of additional medical specialist appointments at Ballarat Health Services. This means better access to care, closer to home.” Ms Addison said.

Ms Settle said Ballarat patients deserve the very best access to healthcare as people in Melbourne.

“Living regionally shouldn’t mean having to pay a fortune to see a specialist, we’re making sure those who need specialised services in and around Ballarat can think about their recovery not their bank balance,” Ms Settle said.
