AFL Goldfields Announces Final Sydney Interleague Squad

AFL Goldfields is excited to announce the representative football team that will travel to Sydney next weekend to play matches against the Sydney Swans Academy and North Shore Bombers.

Following the success of previous representative trips to Far North Queensland, AFL Goldfields are once again taking a 26-man squad north featuring players from the Ballarat Football Netball League, Riddell District Football Netball League, Maryborough Castlemaine District Football Netball League and Central Highlands Football League.

In 2019 the AFL Goldfields Squad will travel to Sydney instead to enable the group to play against an AFL aligned program in the Sydney Swans Academy as well as enjoy other AFL experiences including attending the GWS versus Brisbane Lions AFL match and Sydney Swans training session.

The team will play the Sydney Swans Academy at Blacktown International Sportspark on Tuesday, July 9, at 11am and a second game against the North Shore Bombers U19’s from AFL Sydney under lights at the new synthetic Gore Hill Oval in North Shore on Thursday, July 11, at 7:30pm.

The squad flies out from Melbourne on Sunday July 7, returning on Friday, July 12.

Former Talbot FNC Senior Coach and current AFL Goldfields Academy Coach Matt Smith will coach the side, while AFL Goldfields Football Development Managers Gary Learmonth and Grant McMillan, and Jordan Doyle (RDFNL) will fill assistant coaching roles.

A developing umpire from each of the umpiring associations that officiate in AFL Goldfields leagues will also travel with the team, with Jack Anderson representing the Ballarat Football Umpires Association and Finley Magee representing Riddell Football Umpires Association.

The team will have a final training run next Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at Ballarat’s City Oval starting at 6:30pm, which will include a Jumper Presentation in Saxon House.
