Forest Fire Management Victoria is committed to involving local communities in decision making about bushfire management – this means understanding what you care about most and working with you to determine local solutions to reducing bushfire risk.
Grampians Region’s Assistant Chief Fire Officer Tony English said: “Managing the risks of bushfires is an ongoing and shared responsibility — everyone has a role.”
“In February, we asked the community to help inform strategic bushfire management planning for the Grampians region, which includes the Midlands and Wimmera fire districts,” Mr English said.
“Feedback from that process has been appreciated and we now have a clearer understanding of the direction the community would like us to take.
“We invite community members to participate in a supplementary consultation process, which will test what we have heard and provide the opportunity for additional input.
“Your feedback is important to the finalisation of these strategies that will guide bushfire risk reduction on both public and private land across our fire districts.
“We need community input into our strategies to help us strike the right balance into the future. “This feedback will guide upcoming work such as fuel management and prioritisation of resources across the region.”
