The best of AFL Goldfields takes on the best of the Victorian Amateur Football Association in Women’s football at Elsternwick Park, this Saturday 8th June.
There will be 24 players who will represent AFL Goldfields from across the region in the hopes to represent their clubs well. Of the 24 selected players 22, will be wearing the Goldfields jumper for the first time. Claire Bourdon (East Point Dragons) and Ellen Werts (Redan) have been recalled from the squad who faced off with VAFA in 2017.
“The coaching staff have been very impressed with how quickly the girls have bonded together,” Peter Forbes says.
Players have been enthusiastic on the training track and they are all excited about having the opportunity to represent AFL Goldfields, against VAFA this weekend.”
Forbes is aware of the challenge that is set before the team; taking on a strong VAFA side. He does believe that the coaching staff have selected a competitive side that will represent the league well.
“Saturday is also a great opportunity for our girls to showcase their skills and hopefully for some of them to be noticed and have the chance to take their Football to the next level,” Forbes says.
AFL Goldfields Female Football Manager Krista Woodroffe is excited about the opportunity that this match provides the region and its players.
“We are thrilled to have the best players in our region have the chance to step up in such a big game, and each player that runs out for our team will represent the AFL Goldfields with great pride.” Woodroffe said.
Two players from the AFL Goldfields squad will be playing milestone games this Saturday, with the Captain Abbey Bertram (Bacchus Marsh) playing her 100th game alongside Allana Porter (Melton Centrals) who will rack up her 150th game of football.
