Buninyong to showcase internationally renowned magician

A special treat for the young and the young at heart will be on show in Buninyong.

Internationally renowned Magician,  Duck Cameron, will be on stage at the Buninyong Town Hall on April 13 and 14.

Duck has spent the best part of 30 years traveling the globe performing privately for movie stars, rock stars and even royalty.

He has also had contracts for all  major cruise lines, as a headline act for just on 20 years and is also only one of two magicians in the world to travel for Hyatt Hotels, performing close-up magic to dining guests of the hotels.

“Melbourne is my home, and during school holidays, so as to be home with my wife and daughter, I tour throughout Victoria a children’s Magic show (which my 9 year old daughter performs in) and a workshop suitable for ages 5-12,” he said.

“This is a show I am very proud of, having toured it for many, many years both privately and for Arts Council (primary and secondary) as well as for the Victorian Library Council, also for Nexus Arts throughout Victorian schools.”

Duck said his interest in magic dates back to the beginning of the 1970s when his family moved to London for 6 months, due to his father’s work.

“I was 6 years of age and at that time on the BBC there was a gamut of magic shows and I was fascinated,” Duck explained.

“My father noticed my interest and if I behaved myself, once a week he would buy me a small magic trick from the local magic shop, and I was bitten by the bug.”

Now aged 50, Duck says performing keeps him ‘childlike’ and allows him to play in the garage, which is his toy shop, with different ideas.

“I got into magic by accident – I wanted to work in television, and I did behind the cameras and magic was just a hobby – but I think what I love about it as  a career is the ability to travel,” he said.

“And of course to entertain the audience – the magic is almost secondary, the most important thing is performance and entertaining my audience, having fun.”

While his show is aimed at 5-12 year-olds, Duck added that he is proud to say that the parents enjoyed it as much as their children did.

“It’s a family show that is suitable for all ages – there will be big illusions, you will see someone appear magically, you will see a lucky young person from the audience float in the air and a lot of involvement with the children, including teaching them a magic trick or two,” Duck said.

Duck will be in Buninyong for 4 shows only.
