Mt Pleasant Primary rewarded for saying no to plastic waste on World Water Day

Friday 22 March was World Water Day and the theme for 2019 is ‘Leaving no one behind’. Today, billions of people are still living without safe water – their households, schools, workplaces, farms and factories struggling to survive and thrive.

To celebrate World Water Day, Central Highlands Water will present Mt Pleasant Primary School with a Be Smart Choose Tap (BSCT) drinking fountain for their efforts in collecting single-use plastic bottles for this year’s Begonia Festival.

The school collected over 250 single-use plastic bottles to fill the shell of Squirtle, the giant turtle and Central Highlands Water’s centrepiece at this year’s Begonia Festival. Squirtle provided a visual representation of the burden felt by the environment due to plastic waste.

This is an opportunity to commend Mt Pleasant Primary School for making the pledge to stop using single-use plastic bottles and ensure this crusade continues with the everyday use of a BSCT drinking fountain.
