Help 99.9 Voice FM stay on air

For more than 30 years, 99.9 Voice FM has served as an outlet for hundreds of passionate individuals to share their interests with the community and provided listeners an alternative to commercial radio and entertainment outlets. The radio station has delivered content ranging from local news, comedy, programs presented in languages from around the world, specialist music, art, community issues, event promotion and almost everything else that could be conveyed through the medium of radio for the people of Ballarat and surrounds.

Unfortunately this fixture of the local community is now at risk. 99.9 Voice FM has historically been funded by a mixture of government and community grants, sponsorship, membership fees and the kindness of the community but due to recent changes to how grants can be used, coinciding with a drop in sponsorship income and rising overheads, the station now faces the possibility of closure in 2019 if the shortfalls cannot be overcome.

The Board and members are working on a number of fundraising initiatives but they need the community’s support. Without people to attend their functions or donating money, they can’t survive.

Cait Larcombe, Board Secretary and long-time presenter encourages anyone looking for a volunteer opportunity to get in touch to find out more. “We have so many different activities available, with different skill sets always welcomed. It doesn’t matter what your background is, and not all of our volunteers present programs on air. We have many people working behind the scenes in a variety of roles; technical, administrative, training, management and fundraising to name a few. The possibilities are endless. It doesn’t matter if you have years of experience or none at all, if you are willing to help out then we will find something for you to do.”

Run solely by dedicated volunteers, 99.9 Voice FM has opportunities for anyone who is interested to come along and try their hand at a range of different activities. For more information, contact the station during office hours in person or phone 5333 1201, email Secretary@voicefm.net.au or contact us via our website or Facebook page.

Diverse backgrounds are also welcomed. In 2018, Voice FM ran a training day for multicultural presenters, which was financially supported by the City of Ballarat and had presenters and potential volunteers who have migrated to Ballarat from Asia, Europe, Africa, the United States and South America in attendance. The station has volunteers of all ages and levels of ability.

Donations can also be submitted via the website (https://voicefm.com.au/index.php/get-involved/donations/) or in person at the station during office hours.

Bank deposits are also accepted and further details can be obtained by emailing Cait Larcombe at Secretary@voicefm.net.au
