Claire Fahey, the reigning women’s real tennis champion, will defend her world title in Ballarat in January.
The Ladies Real Tennis Championship is being held from the 20th to the 26th January 2019 at the Ballarat Tennis Club, 388 Larter Street Canadian.
The number one seed, Claire Fahey last won the title in 2017 in upstate New York at the Tuxedo Club.
Claire has defended her World singles title four times and is already a modern “great” in the game (the forerunner of lawn tennis) which traces its history back over 500 years beyond Henry VIIII and the Stuart kings from Scotland.

Claire is the top rated lady player in the world and the only one with a single figure handicap, her best being 2.4 . In 2011, Claire became the youngest ever World Champion at the age of 19, winning the singles and also the doubles with her sister Sarah. Claire has won 27 Ladies Open Singles Championships and 26 Ladies Open Doubles Championships. She won both a Singles and doubles Grand Slam in 2010, 2012, 2014 & 2017 and a Singles Grand Slam in 2011.
Claire turned professional in 2011. She spent time training at Lords Club and the Royal Melbourne Real Tennis Club. She joined Holyport Real Tennis Club as the Senior Professional in September 2014, before moving to Prested Hall Real Tennis (with husband, Rob) in November2016. As of February 2017, the Faheys had taken over the running of the Prested Hall Real Tennis club, combining their training focus with their ambition to run a successful & thriving Real Tennis Club.
An international field, with players from the UK and locals from Melbourne, Hobart and Ballarat, will compete in the Ladies singles and doubles events, plus an additional Ladies Handicap Doubles tournament.

The Championship is being organised by the Ballarat Tennis Club under the auspices of the Australian Real Tennis Association.
A Ballarat City Council Civic Reception will headline the event on Monday the 21st January, and the event will close with a major Presentation Dinner on the evening of the 26th to celebrate the event, the winners and Australia Day.
