Saunders selected for Australia at the World Skate Championships

FedUni WestVic Academy of Sport Skateboarder, and VIS Scholarship holder, Brad Saunders has qualified for the World Skate SLS World Championships of Street Skateboarding in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.

The World Championships, to be held next month, will be conducted from 8th – 13th January, 2019.

The World Championship of Street Skateboarding 2019 is the seeding event for season number 1 of the Olympic Qualification System, ending on the 15th September 2019. The event will bring together only the best street skateboarders in the world, all of whom have their eyes set on the upcoming Tokyo Olympics in 2020.

Saunders, 16, who currently attends Beaufort Secondary College, qualified for the event after an accumulation of ranking points throughout the year, including his most recent performance at the Tampa AM, Florida.

Saunders recently competed in the X Games, Sydney, in the Open Men’s Skateboard Street category against athletes from the United States, Brazil, Canada, Japan, France and Australia.

Saunders selection to represent Team Australia at the World Championship continues a stellar season, one which started with him being awarded a Victorian Institute of Sport (VIS) scholarship in December last year.
