Compassion, understanding and the gift of giving are all lessons learned by Ballarat Clarendon College Junior School students through their ‘Kids Supporting Community’ initiative.
Each year funds raised from the Junior School Fair are donated to local community organisations and charities.
This year, the Ballarat Animal Shelter, Very Special Kids and CAFS were presented with a donation at final assembly on Tuesday 11 December.
Across the year, students are encouraged to act with kindness and goodwill. Teachers recognise these acts, providing students with tokens which they then donate to their chosen community organisation. These tokens are then converted into a cash donation.
Head of Ballarat Clarendon Junior School, Mr. Steven Belcher, spoke of how parents and staff have worked together to instill within the children an understanding of the importance of giving back to the community and being grateful.
“It is delightful to see the students acting in such generous and kind ways towards their peers and, in turn, being able to donate to the greater Ballarat community.”
“The money raised at this year’s Fair for the ‘Kids in Community’ initiative really reinforces for our students that they are part of the greater Ballarat community and they have the ability to create positive change,” said Steven.
