Ballarat Health Services (BHS) is proud to have been involved in the production of a new podcast series created to help newly diagnosed cancer patients. The Cancer Survivor Guide has been released recently to guide patients through what to expect when they are first diagnosed.
The series of five podcasts is designed to provide patients with an avenue to digest and understand the myriad of information they receive at the time of diagnosis. The podcasts are full of practical information, interviews and advice from oncologists, surgeons, nurses and survivors about how to come to terms with the diagnosis, and what to expect with surgery, chemotherapy and radiation. There is also a specific podcast for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients.
Patients can download the series onto their device for free, then listen to it and re-listen to it at their own pace, from the comfort of their own home or when they are out and about. The podcasts are available from the Cancer Survivor Guide website, iTunes, Google Play and Spotify.
BHS is appreciative for the excellent resource the podcasts will provide for the many patients that utilise the Ballarat Regional Cancer Centre (BRICC). BRICC is the main cancer hub for the Grampians region and is located at BHS.
The project is an initiative of the Grampians Integrated Cancer Service Consumer Advisory Group which is based at BHS, and is funded by the Health Issues Centre. It is a collaboration between BHS, Ballarat Cancer Care, St John of God Ballarat Hospital, Ballarat & District Aboriginal Co-operative and the Cancer Council.
